Why Consistency & Repetition Are Important

How do you teach kids to read?

And my answer, honestly, is simple.

And it's the same answer I've given since the day Next Step Education opened it's doors -

Consistent, explicit instruction.

It doesn't just support your child in learning to read.

It supports your child in being a confident kid! In and outside of the classroom!

Practice makes permanent.

Which is exactly why I've designed my summer learning program to speak to this process. My goal is to get your child reading! And I truly believe it is the best job ever!

After years of working with children in the summer months, when they are away from school, consistency, direct instruction, delivered 2x/week is what is required for them to make adequate progress.

And when we both honor that commitment, guess what?

It's the kids who win!

It's the kids who walk into September confident and proud.

THAT's my desire. That your child feels excited to show up to school and raise their hand and feel capable and confident on Day 1!

So how many repetitions does the research say a student needs?

4 - 14 for a typical student

14 - 40 for a struggling student

40 - 200 for a student with dyslexia

Repetition builds momentum.

And momentum builds confidence.

Repetition - doesn't have to look like flashcards and memorizing.

In fact, there's no memorizing at Next Step.

I believe in integrating learning.

I believe in explicit instruction and then intentional practice.

Consistency & repetition are what’s required for children to make adequate progress in reading at the foundational level.

This is what sets them up for success for the rest of their academic experience.

At Next Step Education we believe that consistency fuels momentum and momentum fuels growth 🚀

Building lifelong learners has been my mission.

When you show up consistently, when you engage in the learning, when you trust me and my Transformational Learning Curriculum, your child will become a reader.

And even better, a lifelong learner.
